Who is March of Dimes Canada and what does it do?

March of Dimes Canada has evolved from its modest origins in 1951 as a community of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes to fund polio research to a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization.
We assist people with disabilities and seniors with day-to-day activities, recovery, and job placement.

What are the responsibilities of the Community Support Services team?

Our Community Support Services team, which is largely supported by governments, offers critical services to help people live as independently as possible.
If the impairment is physical, emotional, or the product of a brain injury or aging, our 1,600 workers help people in their homes and communities regain a higher level of functioning and social interaction.
The number of people we represent has increased to over 6,100 in the last year.

This Is Your Chance

We currently have full-time and part-time permanent Support Service Attendant positions available in our Central area – 13311 Yonge St. Richmond Hill, Ontario Duties include the following:

  • Assists consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures:
  • Personal care – Lifts and Transfers – Rising/retiring – Bowel and bladder procedures – Meal preparation and feeding – Range of motion exercises – Other light housekeeping duties
  • Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.
  • March of Dimes Canada offers its clients round-the-clock assistance.

Support Services Attendants will be expected to work a variety of shifts (days, evenings, and weekends) that will vary depending on the venue.

Qualifications / Background:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) qualification
  • Experience dealing with individuals who have physical disabilities, as well as awareness of independent living and consumer-based treatment.
  • Ability to move, lift, perform bowel and bladder routines, and perform other attendant care duties.
  • Upon hiring, a self-assessment of physical demands is needed.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are important.
